There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
